Talking About It Works. Why Sharing Your Struggles Builds Resilience
PREFACE:
This is the final article in our Wellbeing Insights series, inspired by the Lululemon Global Wellbeing Report 2024. In this piece, we return to something ancient and essential: the simple act of speaking truthfully, and being heard.
There’s power in language. Not just the words themselves, but the courage it takes to use them. To say, “I’m not coping,” or “I feel alone,” or “I’m not sure what to do next.”
According to Lululemon’s findings, individuals who talk about loneliness with people they trust report an 11% increase in overall wellbeing.
That’s not just a soft skill—it’s a clinical intervention. Because what’s unspoken is often what weighs the most.
THE PHYSIOLOGY OF EXPRESSION
Suppressing emotion may feel polite, even functional, but it comes at a cost. Holding things in elevates stress hormones, weakens immune response, and contributes to sleep issues, gut dysfunction, and chronic fatigue. On the other hand, simply naming how we feel helps deactivate the brain’s fear centres and re-engage higher-order thinking.
In short, conversation is chemistry. And connection is a form of medicine.
WHAT WE SEE AT MODE
Many of our patients arrive carrying complex emotional loads—grief, burnout, shame, uncertainty. They may have seen other clinics, ticked off blood tests, tried new diets. But what they often haven’t done is talk. Really talk. At Mode, we treat with precision—but also with presence.
Our team of GPs, therapists, and nurses is trained to listen beyond the symptom. To create space where patients feel safe enough to speak, and strong enough to act. Because resilience isn’t about coping silently. It’s about staying in relationship—with yourself, your body, and the people who can help.
At Mode, conversation is part of the care. If you’ve been holding it together for too long, start by letting it out. Whether through a confidential chat with our care team or guided support from a therapist, we’re here to help you carry what you no longer need to hold alone.
At Mode, we’re redefining what it means to feel well.
Rooted in natural therapies and backed by science, we treat the human—not just the symptom. Whether you're feeling stuck, stressed, or simply ready to take your health seriously, our care team is here to guide you gently forward.
We have clinics in Bunbury, Dunsborough, Perth, Bangalow and nationally with our Telehealth Clinic.
